GAA Coaching and Sports Development

Course Description

This is a one year full time programme, the aim of which is to provide a qualification designed for students wishing to pursue a career in sport health and fitness coaching. This programme is specifically designed for students interested in GAA coaching and covers such areas as player development, strength/conditioning and endurance training, skill development in hurling and football and injury prevention. The syllabus will cover a broad range of theoretical and practical components designed to help students advance into higher education or to enter the workplace An integral part of this programme will be a work placement module in a GAA setting.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements for On-Line Applicants:

  • Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a level 4 certificate
  • or have reached the age of 18. 
  • Mature student

If the criteria above does not apply, you will be called for an information interview to secure a place on the programme

Work Experience

Work experience will take place in local national and secondary schools where students will deliver the basics of both Gaelic Football and Hurling to children of varying ages

Career Opportunities

GAA Games Development Officers, GAA Coaches, GAA tutors, Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, Sports Management in Community Sports Facilities and Leisure Centres.

Graduates may progress to a variety of sports related courses at third level including the Sports Studies and Physical Education teacher training Degree course at UCC. Progression is on a competitve basis.

Course Fees

All students are required to pay the €10 application fee and €150 registration fee. Both of these fees are non-refundable. Students are also required to pay the €200 Government Levy (exemptions with valid medical card or evidence that you qualify for Maintenance Grant/Back to Education Allowance). Additional course specific fees will apply. Details of course specific fees are available on request from college office or when you apply online.
