Youth Work

Course Description

This exciting one year course is designed to provide a programme of education for people seeking initial training in youth work and community work and those with some experience who wish to undertake structured training to develop and consolidate their skills.  An interesting feature of this programme is its variety of workshops.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a Level 4.  Mature students are very welcome.  Access to this programme will be decided by interview. 

Work Experience

Work experience forms and integral part of this KCFE programme.  Students participate in quality placements allowing a valuable opportunity to gain hands on experience in industry.  Links made with employers during work experience often result in employment.

Career Opportunities

This programme equips graduates with the basic skills needed to work in the youth work sector.

Progression to Further Education and Higher Education Students will have a solid knowledge base for further studies at degree level in many vocational areas within the caring professions.

Graduates of this programme are eligible to apply for a place on a variety of degree courses in various Institutes of Technologies and some Universities.

Course Fees

Registration fee is €150. Government Levy €200. Exemptions with valid medical card or evidence that you qualify for Maintenance Grant/Back to Education Allowance. Details of additional fees available on request from college office.


Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • QQI Level 5 award in Youth Work - 5M4732
  • First-Aid Certification
