Course Description

The prospective Beauty Therapist will learn the techniques, skills, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success as a Beauty Therapist in business. Quality assurance and student assessments are monitored by VTCT and QQI.

Year 2

VTCT Qualification:

  • Origins of Massage, Principles of Complementary & Alternative Medicine
  • Body Massage Techniques
  • Massage using Pre-Blended Aromatherapy Oils
  • Stone Therapy Massage
  • Monitor Health & Safety in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Personal Health and Wellbeing
  • Indian head Massage

 

QQI Qualification:

  • Electrical Epilation Electrolysis) L6
  • Body Massage & Figure Analysis
  • Reflexology
  • Work Expeience

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a level 4 Certificate. Biology or Home Economics is an advantage. Progression to Year 2 will depend on a candidate successfully completing all modules and units in Year 1.

Applications are welcome from Therapists holding Beauty Specialist Techniques qualification, wishing to complete Year 2 of their qualifications. Entry to this programme will be decided by interview.

Work Experience

Work experience forms an integral part of this KCFE programme. Students complete their experience in the College Salon.

Career Opportunities

Completion of this course should lead to opportunities in a wide range of settings including employment in a beauty salon, hotel spa or holistic centre. Openings exist in cosmetic retail outlets. Self-employment in the Beauty Therapy Industry is also an option. Students may also work as a Beauty and Massage Therapist on board a cruise liner.

Course Fees

Registration fee €150 per year. All other fees for exams, materials, uniforms and text books are payable on registration. Details from college office.

Certification

Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • QQI Major Award in Beauty Therapy Level 5
  • QQI Minor Award in Reflexology Level 5
  • QQI Minor Award in Electrical Epilation Level 6
  • VTCT Diploma in Beauty Therapy Specialist Techniques Level 2
  • VTCT Diploma in Massage Therapy Level 3
