Advanced Art, Craft and Design

Course Description

This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to enhance their artistic skills and to develop a professional practice in the Visual Arts. The course structure encourages creativity, self-motivation, planning and problem solving. On completion applicants can apply to third level courses or work as practicing artists

Entry Requirements

Students must have completed a QQI Level 5 in Art, Craft and Design or equivalent.  Access to this programme will be decided by interview.

Work Experience

Work experience forms and integral part of this KCFE programme.  Students participate in quality placements allowing a valuable opportunity to gain hands on experience in industry.  Links made with employers during work experience often result in employment.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may become self-employed artists, researchers or designers. They can also work in art galleries, studios, commercial art or in careers that require creative skills.  They may use the course to progress to art colleges where they can commence their path of becoming an Art teacher, Fashion designer, Art therapist, Art administrator or Curator, Photographer, Ceramicist, etc.

On successful completion of this course you may apply to Art College. Some Art colleges may offer advanced entry to year two for students who have successfully completed this QQI Level 6 in Art.

Course Fees

Registration fee is €150. Government Levy €200 ( exemptions with valid medical card or evidence that you qualify for Maintenance Grant/Back to Education Allowance) An Art kit is required by each student, approximately costing €120 This is separate to studio materials costs. Digital camera (phone camera is acceptable). Printing costs and Art Portfolios will also be required during the year.
