Sports Therapy

Course Description

This programme is aimed at students interested in the area of sports injuries and their treatment. Students will study a range of subjects, with particular emphasis being placed on Anatomy and Sports Massage. In Year 1, student must complete a minimum of 10 days work placement in a relevant vocational area. Entry to Year 2 is dependent on successful completion of all examinations and ITEC requirements in Year 1. Throughout the programme, students will be required to work alongside a variety of sporting organisations in the evenings and at weekends as part of their coursework.

  • Physiotherapy Assistant Theory


ITEC Qualification:

  • Diploma in Sports Equipment
  • Diploma in Holistic Massage
  • Award in Taping and Strapping for Sport and Active Leisure
  • Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a level 4 Certificate. Mature applicants are very welcome. Programmes are open to male and female applicants.  Access to this programme will be decided by interview. Biology at Leaving Certificate standard is desirable. Entry to Year 2 is dependent on successful completion of all examinations in Year 1.

Work Experience

Work experience forms and integral part of this KCFE programme.  Students participate in quality placements allowing a valuable opportunity to gain hands on experience in industry.  Links made with employers during work experience often result in employment.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course are eligible to apply as Physiotherapist Assistants in Irish hospitals. 

Progression to Further Education and Higher Education 
Successful graduates may proceed to a variety of third level colleges in Ireland and the UK for further study.
