Course Description

This course aims to provide school leavers or mature students with the opportunity to prepare a portfolio of work for entry to Art Colleges. The programme is also suitable for applicants interested in developing artistic skills in a range of art/design fields.

The points from this course can also be used to gain entry into many third level courses.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements for On-Line Applicants:

  • Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a level 4 certificate
  • or have reached the age of 18. 
  • Mature student

If the criteria above does not apply, you will be called for an information interview to secure a place on the programme. 

Work Experience

Work experience forms and integral part of this KCFE programme.  Students participate in quality placements allowing a valuable opportunity to gain hands on experience in industry.  Links made with employers during work experience often result in employment.

There are a diverse range of careers such as art teachers, professional artists, graphic designer, fashion designers, animation, curators, art administrators, public art offices, multimedia industries

Progression to Further Education and Higher Education 

Graduates may progress to the Level 6 Art and Design Programme at KCFE. 

Graduates may also apply to study Painting, Sculpture, Fashion Design, Design Communications, Ceramics, Animation, Creative Multmedia and other Art/Design courses at Level 7/8 in LIT, CIT, DIT, IADT, GMIT, NCAD, etc. 

Course Fees

All students are required to pay the €10 application fee and €150 registration fee. Both of these fees are non-refundable. Students are also required to pay the €200 Government Levy (exemptions with valid medical card or evidence that you qualify for Maintenance Grant/Back to Education Allowance). Additional course specific fees will apply. Details of course specific fees are available on request from college office or when you apply online. An Art kit is required by each student, approximately costing €120 This is separate to studio materials costs. Digital camera (phone camera is acceptable). Printing costs and Art Portfolios will also be required during the year.

Certification

Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • QQI Level 5 Certificate in Art, Craft and Design - 5M1984
