Electronic Technology

Course Description

This programme is designed to give students a firm foundation in the skills required in the electronics and engineering sectors. While the programme covers many of the theoretical aspects of electronics, students also gain hands-on experience in the use of technologies particularly those involving the use of electronics and digital electronics. In electronic work, engineers provide a wide variety of products used in the modern world. These include personal computers, digital televisions, heating control systems, games consoles and mobile phones.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a level 4 Certificate. Mature applicants are very welcome. Programmes are open to male and female applicants.  Access to this programme will be decided by interview.

Work Experience

Work Experience is a core element of this programme providing an opportunity to put skills developed on the programme into use in a real working environment.  It allows students to create links with employers. 

Career Opportunities

Electronic service technician, test and repair technician, electronic and computer engineering, access control installations.

Progression to Further Education and Higher Education 

Progress to QQI Level 6 Mechatronic Engineering at KCFE.

Growth in the electronics, telecommunications and computer industries has strengthened the demand for graduates in this area. Students who successfully complete this course may progress from this Programme to Institutes of Technology through the Higher Education Links Scheme on obtaining a full award.

Course Fees

Registration Fee €150. Government Levy €200, exemptions for medical card holders or those qualifying for Back to Education Allowance or Maintenance Grant. Details of any other fees available on request from college office.
