Course Description

This is an employment focused programme offering you the perfect blend of administration, ICT and communication skills required by today’s employers enabling you to secure office based employment in a modern office.  This is also the ideal course for those who want to defer a third level college place as skills gained will be used in all facets of future study and will enable you to gain quality employment while putting yourself through third level.

Bookkeeping is taken at beginner level.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have Leaving Certificate, LCVP, LCA or a level 4 Certificate. Mature applicants are very welcome. Programmes are open to male and female applicants.  Access to this programme will be decided by interview.

Work Experience

Work Experience is a core element of this programme providing an opportunity to put skills developed on the programme into use in a real working environment.  It allows students to create links with employers. Past graduates have found employment from their work experience.  

Career Opportunities

Behind every organisation imaginable there are office employees. This course qualifies you to work as an administrator, secretary, receptionist, personal assistant, clerical officer, customer service executive etc.  Work will be found in all types of office environments e.g. schools, hospitals, hotels, retail outlets, pharmaceutical companies, call centres etc. Past graduates are working in the offices of FEXCO, Dairymaster, Munster Joinery, Bons Secours Hospital, Kerry General Hospital, HSE, Kerry County Council, ETB's and the offices of several small and medium sized enterprises. The skills gained on this course can be taken into many work environments and are also suitable for those who plan to travel and work abroad in the future.


Successful graduates may progress within the college to the Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Administration – Office Management. 

Alternatively, graduates may compete for places on a wide range of Higher Certificate and Honours Degrees in IT’s and Universities. Examples of progression include Bachelor of Commerce Degree UCC, Business Information System UCC, Office Information Systems IT Tralee, Bachelor of Arts UL etc

Course Fees

Registration fee of €150. Details of all other college fees are available from the college office on request.


Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • QQI Level 5 certificate in Office Administration - 5M1997
